Linux: Restore terminal / shell color scheme

When you create a .bashrc file in your home directory on Ubuntu, because you need for example to export the JAVA_HOME path, it is very likely that you will lose the default color scheme and highlighting on the shell / terminal.

The better solution is just to copy the default .bashrc settings into your home directory and attach your custom settings at the end. Using the copy will “restore” the default settings.

Copy the default bash settings to your home directory

cp /etc/skel/.bashrc /home/myuser/.bashrc

Most likely you will have to create a new terminal session to see the effects.
